The Catholic and Protestant communities at the Nellis Chapel raised more than $12,000 in Haiti relief donations Jan. 23 and 24.

The donations collected from the families of Team Nellis and Creech will be given to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund for Haiti.

Chaplain (Maj.) John Shipman, Nellis Chapel senior protestant chaplain, and Master Sgt. Angela Clark, Nellis Chapel noncommissioned officer in charge, set up the collection of funds

"Tragedies such as this, remind us of simple blessings, such as a roof over our heads, clean water, food, medical care, and to know our families are safe," said Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Michael Brown, 99th Air Base Wing head chaplain. "When people respond to others who are suffering, that is when the exercise of faith is at its best."

The country of Haiti experienced an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale Jan. 12. The American Red Cross is working with its global partners to help the people in Haiti that have been affected by disaster.

"Many other chapels across the Air Force are joining faith-based organizations to provide donations," Chaplain Brown said. "This was a larger offering than usual, demonstrating the concern and desire to reach out to those that are suffering."

The Nellis Chapel will continue to accept donations for the American Red Cross relief in Haiti. Call The Nellis Chapel at (702) 652-2950 if you have questions.
