New club house serves first customer in preparation for grand opening Published Feb. 3, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Michael Charles Nellis Public Affairs Office NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The new Nellis Golf Course clubhouse served its first customer during a 'soft opening' Feb. 3. Col. Dave Belote, 99th Air base Wing commander, became the first customer of the new club house, which has been preparing for the public grand opening since hosting the 99 ABW holiday party. The new golf course is one of many new quality of life improvements being made to Nellis this year. In 2008, 6.5 million dollars in non-appropriated funds were set aside to build a new state-of-the-art golf facility to replace the older building that has been in service since the 1960's. The new facility began construction in Oct. 2008 and was completed in Dec. 2009 The new golf club house features new additions, including a special function room. This new room will be able to accommodate 144 players for special events and tournaments. Also available is a larger patio which overlooks the golf course. For grand opening events, the golf course will host a nine-hole golf tournament Feb. 12 at noon. Sign up for the event is at 11a.m. on the same day. Following the golf tournament will be the official ribbon cutting at 3 p.m., marking to official opening to the new golf club house. Raffle prizes and food will be available throughout the day as part of the festivities.
