Retiree Activities Office provides aid to retirees and families

Nellis Air Force Base's Retiree Activities Office specializes in helping military retirees, their spouses and their dependents. The RAO provides research and guidance related to military retirement and benefits. It also serves as a bridge to support offices such as the legal, medical, finance, education and personnel offices, as well as Federal and State government agencies.

As an example, some disabled retirees that visit the RAO are entitled to, but have never heard of, a benefit called Combat Related Special Compensation. CRSC can replace a portion of VA rated disability pay when the retired military member's injury was related to combat, combat training, hazardous duty, or certain other circumstances. Unlike VA disability pay, CRSC is paid to the retiree in addition to military retirement pay. The RAO can assist retirees with the application process.

The RAO also aids spouses of deceased retirees who may be eligible for survivor benefits and casualty assistance support. The RAO helps family members get the help they may need with applying for entitlements, making final arrangements, and determining if they are eligible for other services.

The office organizes an annual Retiree Appreciation Day each September. The event centers on the needs of retired veterans and their families and often includes free services such as blood pressure checks and vaccinations. They often host information booths on health and education benefits, veteran assistance programs, and private veterans' organizations.

The RAO is located in room 135 of Building 20 (the Mission Support building) and is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
