Car registration enforcement begins Published Aug. 30, 2010 Courtesy of Clark County Office of Public Information LAS VEGAS -- Civilians who live in Las Vegas and continue to drive with out-of-state plates may soon get a visit from a Las Vegas township constable deputy or other law enforcement official. By law, state residents are required to register their vehicles within 60 days of moving to Nevada. Military members who are not residents of Nevada are excluded; however, civilian service and government contract employees are considered state residents. Funding from vehicle registration fees pays for roads, schools and government services. The new enforcement program grew from changes in state law approved by the 2009 legislature that allow constables and other law enforcement officials to issue citations to motorists who fail to register their vehicles. Penalties for violating vehicle registration laws include a citation and court hearing, up to a $1,000 fine and a $100 fee to the constable. More information about the program is available online at www.accessclarkcounty.com.
