In an effort to improve Nellis Air Force Base's infrastructure, the 99th Civil Engineer Squadron has begun a $5 million project to install approximately six miles of new domestic water main pipe along Tyndall Avenue. The new pipe will run from the Tyndall Gate entrance near Freedom Park to the intersection of Tyndall Ave. and Fitzgerald Ave. and from the north end of the flightline to the south end, along the east side of the aircraft hangars.

The project will improve potable water quality for the many users served by the existing 60-year-old Tyndall Ave. water main and will increase the water quantity available to the base fire department for airfield and base fire-fighting requirements.

The project began on Sept. 27, and is scheduled to take approximately one year to complete.

Excavation work will take place on and around Tyndall Ave., so vehicle operators can expect occasional traffic delays and slower traffic when encountering these construction areas. Drivers should anticipate the presence of flaggers, workmen, construction equipment, and traffic barriers, so please use extra caution in these areas.

The contractor will maintain water service to the various base facilities and hangars along Tyndall Ave. and the flightline as the project progresses. Users of these facilities should expect temporary water and possible utility outages when the contractor must connect their facility's water line to the new water main. The contractor will work to minimize outages when they occur or are required.

While this project may inconvenience some base personnel and airfield units at times, it is necessary. The 99th CES appreciates everyone's patience and cooperation as base personnel and their units will benefit when this project is complete.
