Nellis dependent crowned Miss Nevada Teen USA Published Nov. 17, 2010 By Airman First Class Cynthia A. Haughton Nellis Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Millions of fans across the world watch eagerly each year as young women compete for the titles of Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA. Ashley Brown, daughter of Master Sgt. William Brown, 98th Range Wing, has been one of those fans for years, but she now finds herself closer than ever to wearing one of those coveted crowns. Representing Nellis Air Force Base as Miss Nellis AFB Teen, Miss Brown, 17, was crowned Miss Nevada Teen USA 2011 during the Miss Nevada USA pageant Nov. 14 at the College of Southern Nevada, alongside the newly crowned Miss Nevada USA 2011, Sarah Chapman. "It meant the world to me to represent Nellis," Miss Brown said. "I wanted to let everyone know that I was part of the military and I'm not afraid to show it. The Air Force is doing an amazing job and I'm proud of being a military dependent." Miss Brown was first introduced to the Miss Universe Organization when she was 10, but she didn't start participating in pageants herself until last year. Being a military dependent, Miss Brown has been to many different parts of the world, including Germany, where she lived for eight years before moving to Las Vegas, making it difficult for her to compete until recently. "I couldn't ever join because I was too young, but I always loved watching the girls on stage," she said. After her two-year-old sister started doing pageants, Miss Brown's motivation and interest grew and pushed her to reach for her dream--to become Miss Nevada Teen USA. "My sister started doing pageants and I decided this was my time to prove that I can do whatever I want to do in life," she said. "I didn't want to go in there blank-minded, so I tried out a couple
