Nellis one of nine bases running pilot project Published Dec. 17, 2010 By 2nd Lt. Laura Balch Nellis Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Nellis has been selected as one of nine Air Force bases to run a pilot project, Caring for People. As the CfP coordinator for Nellis, Karen Wilson is enthusiastic about the project. "My official position here is to help deployed Airmen, their families, and single Airmen with any issues or questions they may have," Ms. Wilson said. "In reality, I'm here for everybody. I'm here to help people solve problems and, if I can't help them, I'll put them in touch with the people who can." The CfP coordinators are an installation-level, supplemental resource for Airmen and families to call on for individual assistance. By communicating with members of the military community and gathering their feedback, questions and concerns, CfP coordinators are able to advise installation and command leadership on the pressing issues facing military families. These helping professionals also serve as a critical link between specialists and organizations that work within the Air Force and civilian communities. "I help our Nellis support programs come together so that we can share resources," Ms. Wilson said. "In today's world, money's too tight and troops need us too much; we have to do more with less." CfP coordinators also serve as a point of contact for members of the community who want to reach out to military members and provide assistance. "We have a lot of people in the community who want to do something for our Airmen, but they don't know who to call," Ms. Wilson explained. "I'm that person." In addition to Nellis, the Caring for People project is located at: Barksdale Air Force Base, La.; Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; Hurlburt Field, Fla.; Kadena Air Base, Japan; Langley Air Force Base, Va.; MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.; McConnell Air Force Base, Kan.; Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England and RAF Mildenhall, England. Caring for People officially began Nov. 1, 2009, and the pilot project will last for 30 months. After that time period, the program will be evaluated and a determination will be made regarding whether or not the project will expand to additional bases.
