98th Range Wing superintendent retires Published Feb. 28, 2011 Nellis Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Chief Master Sgt. Mark Darden, 98th Range Wing superintendent, retired at a ceremony held at the Nellis Club Feb. 22. During the ceremony, Col. John Montgomery, 98th Range Wing commander, presented Chief Darden with the Meritorious Service Medal and certificates of retirement. Chief Darden's wife, Laura Darden, presented him with his retirement pin. Also during the retirement ceremony, Airman 1st Class Lewis Hafner, Nellis Honor Guard, presented the flag to Chief Darden. Chief Darden enlisted in the Air Force in 1983. He spent the final eight years of his 28 year-long career assigned to Nellis Air Force Base. During four of those eight years, he worked for the 820th REDHORSE Squadron. His served his final assignment as the 98th Range Wing superintendent, where he oversaw more than 800 military, civilian and contractor personnel and provided direct support for the test, training and tactics development for Combat Air Forces and multi-service warfighters on the 2.9 million-acre Nevada Test and Training Range.
