The Nellis Red Cross offers a variety of opportunities for Airmen and their families to volunteer and get involved with the base.

The Red Cross on base is open Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone can participate in the many volunteer opportunities that are offered throughout the base. For example, there are some opportunities for teenagers to help out at the base hospital during the summer.

"We are good at what we do," said Jennifer Ramieh, Red Cross director of communications and public support. "Our job is critical and there is no other organization that does all the things we do."

The Red Cross sends people to on-base events in addition to events located off base. Margie Manning, Red Cross military outreach coordinator, has been working with the Red Cross on base for four years and helps place those who want to volunteer with the organizations, both on base and off base, that need the extra help.

"With this job, I feel like I'm able to do something to give back," she said.

Along with the Red Cross, there are many other locations on base that offer volunteer opportunities. Some of these include the Airman and Family Readiness Center, the library, and the legal office. Angie Hutchinson is the Volunteer Coordinator on base; it is her job to help people get connected with the base and community volunteer opportunities.

"Volunteering shows people there's help," said Mrs. Manning. "They can see how much we care, and how much work we put into what we do."
