Air Combat Command's Green Flag-West participants are preparing for tomorrow's victories by shifting their focus to training across the spectrum of conflict, partnering with the United States Army at Fort Irwin to practice complex air defense scenarios while supporting high-intensity ground operations.

During the next six months, the 549th and 12th Combat Training Squadrons, overseers of Green Flag-West, will switch gears from training warfighters solely for today's mission to broadening training to include future fight scenarios that the Army and Joint Forces Command call "hybrid threat." This "hybrid threat" training is more robust and focuses on supporting ground forces from the air rather than via counterinsurgency operations.

The 549th and 12th Combat Training Squadrons are vital to making this change happen through the rigorous air-land integration training incorporated in Green Flag-West. Members of these squadrons will continue to train 10 times per year while they adjust to this new mission focus.

"With the drawdown of Army Soldiers in Iraq, there is more room in the Army's curriculum to train for more complex scenarios," said Lt. Col. Robert Chavez, 549th CTS commander. "This new training will not only prepare us for today's joint fight, but will prepare us for victory in tomorrow's fight."
