Combined Federal Campaign set to kick-off at Nellis, Creech and NTTR Published Sept. 27, 2011 By Senior Airman Michael Charles Nellis Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 2011 Combined Federal Campaign is scheduled to kick-off its 50th year Oct. 3, 2011, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. For the next nine weeks, service members and federal workers from Nellis, Creech, and the Nevada Test and Training Range will be asked to pledge a donation to one of more than 25,000 charities. Col. Garland, 99th Air Base Wing commander, stressed the importance of each dollar donated, especially in these hard financial times when charities are finding donations even harder to come by. "The Combined Federal Campaign is our once-a-year opportunity to personally choose those charities which we feel offer the most benefit to our service, communities and families," Garland said. "As military and government civilian members, we are afforded a rare opportunity to take the lead in showing the world that charity begins at home." The Department of Defense's 2011 CFC campaign will continue through Dec. 15, 2011. The CFC began in 1961 and is the world's largest charitable drive. Pledges are made by Department of Defense federal workers and military personnel and support eligible non-profit organizations. These charities range from helping with environmental issues to preventing bullying in schools. A complete list of charities can also be found at www.nevadacfc.org. Personnel willing to contribute donations in order to help meet this year's goal of $300,000 should contact their unit's CFC representative. These designated representatives will provide a CFC newspaper, which lists the eligible charities, and a form, which allows the donors to choose their method of payment. The donation can be a monthly payroll deduction beginning in January 2012 or a one-time lump sum. Last year, members of the installation were able to raise more than $384,000, easily surpassing the 2010 goal of $250,000. The CFC campaign has garnered more than $6 billion in charitable contributions since its inception. The CFC Installation Action Officer for Nellis, Creech and the Nevada Test and Training Range this year is Capt. Tammy Baker, 99th Medical Surgical Specialties chief staff audiologist.
