The Nellis First Sergeants Council is holding its annual Adopt-A-Family program during the upcoming 2011 holiday season at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

Adopt-A-Family is a program that delivers presents to military families from Nellis and Creech who are in need of some extra help during the holidays.

"This opportunity is one of many that showcase the devotion and support we, as a community, give one another," said Master Sgt. Brandy Walker, 99th Communications Squadron first sergeant and Adopt-A-Family co-lead. "The response we have already received is overwhelming and inspiring."

To partake in this program, local community agencies, such as banks, fire departments and veterans organizations, as well as individuals and fellow military personnel are encouraged to donate unwrapped gifts Dec. 12-16, 2011. These gifts will be distributed to the families Dec. 19-20, 2011.

"Extending the spirit of Christmas is a chance to show how thankful I am for the blessings that our Lord has bestowed on my family," said Master Sgt. Jody Nededog, 57th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron first sergeant and Adopt-A-Family co-lead.

In the past, Adopt-A-Family has benefitted more than 200 Airmen and families each year.

"The amount of support provided to Nellis families by on and off base persons is impressive," said Master Sgt. Cunard Smith, 757th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron first sergeant and Adopt-A-Family co-lead. "To ensure those less fortunate can celebrate Christmas is in line with the best of humanity, which, unfortunately, is the exception and not the norm in our society."

Any military personnel who would like to donate gifts or adopt a family this year should contact his or her unit first sergeant no later than Nov. 11, 2011. All others should contact Master Sgt. Brandy Walker at brandy.walker@us.af.mil. The first sergeants counsel will provide donors with information about gift drop-off locations and times.
