99 CES maintains Environmental Grove Published Nov. 2, 2011 By Nesley Orochena 99th Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental Section NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental Section worked with the 99 CES Operations Flight and the University of Nevada Las Vegas Master Gardeners to perform landscape maintenance Oct. 27, 2011, at the Maj. Gen. Billy McCoy Environmental Grove on Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The grove emphasizes Nellis' dedication to sustainability and the environment. In the early 1990s when parks, residential houses and commercial centers showcased mostly non-conservation landscapes, such as water intensive grass fields, the grove was part of the initial trend in the valley to incorporate desert landscape with the intention to conserve energy and water resources.
