The annual Trees for Troops give away took place Dec. 2, 2011, in front of the base chapel on Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

The Christmas Spirit Foundation donated more than 600 trees from growers in Salem, Ore. so Nellis and Creech Airmen, families and friends could have a real Christmas tree this holiday season.

After volunteers from around the base unloaded the two truckloads of trees and placed them outside, hundreds of beneficiaries gathered to choose their perfect Christmas tree. The volunteers then assisted the beneficiaries by carrying trees to the vehicles and tying the trees down.

Some of the donated trees were set aside for Airmen with families who live or work at Creech AFB and could not make the drive down to Nellis.

"We had people come to pick up trees for Airmen at Creech," said Cate Berry, 99th Force Support Squadron Marketing director. "We want to give every Airman the chance to have a great Christmas."

Most donated trees are kept within the same region, however, this year, FedEx donated trucks and drivers to help donate a total of 56,000 trees to bases around the country.

"I can't think of anything better than to ensure our troops and families have a beautiful Christmas together," Berry said. "Just seeing how excited the children are to be out here is worth it to me."
