The Nellis Airman and Family Readiness Center offers a multitude of programs and events to help military members and their families succeed in all aspects of life. From parenting classes for growing families to financial management programs for young Airmen to free dinners and special events for deployed and remote families, the A&FRC is there to help Airmen, family members, guardsmen, reservists and retirees.

One of the programs the A&FRC offers is designed specifically for military spouses. The program is called "Whazzup Nellis?" and its purpose is to provide spouses with information about the base community and services that are available both on and off base.

"This program is particularly helpful for spouses who are arriving at their first duty station," said Kris Heick, "Whazzup Nellis?" program manager. "We designed this program in 2008 to create another way for us to welcome spouses and get them involved in the community."

"Whazzup Nellis?" is offered on the second Wednesday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon.

During the program, spouses will hear from representatives of the Health and Wellness Center, the TriCare office, the Force Support Squadron, the Housing office, the Officers and Enlisted Spouses Clubs, the Volunteer Program Manager, and the Military and Family Life Consultant in addition to other base organizations.

"What we've noticed, after running this program for a while, is that it serves as a good social networking opportunity," said Heick. "It's a good avenue for people to get involved in activities. The spouses who participate in this program also tend to take advantage of other programs we offer, such as Heart Link, different volunteering opportunities, job and resume assistance, and our "Ready, Set, Grow!!" playgroup."

For more information on "Whazzup Nellis?" or to register for the next class, contact the A&FRC at 702-652-3327. Program participants will receive materials during the class, so advanced registration is highly encouraged.
