David Grossman to speak at National Prayer Luncheon Published Feb. 7, 2012 By Chaplain, Capt. Glen Harris Nellis Chapel NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Air Base Wing Chaplain's office is proud to welcome retired U.S. Army Ranger, Pulitzer Prize-nominated author and resiliency expert Lt. Col. David Grossman as the speaker at the annual National Prayer Luncheon, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 1, 2012, at The Club on Nellis AFB, Nev. The National Prayer Luncheon is an opportunity for Americans of all faiths to gather together, break bread in fellowship, and pray for themselves, our leadership and our nation. The theme this year will be "Lord, Guard and Guide," and it encourages Airmen to seek the spiritual strength to continue to fly, fight and win. During the luncheon, Grossman will use his expertise to address spiritual fitness, one of the four pillars of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force's Comprehensive Airmen Fitness Program, and how that contributes to overall health and resilience. Grossman, author of "On Killing" and "On Combat," provides training for military and law enforcement departments around the world. In August 2011 he presented his Bulletproof Mind seminar at the Nellis Base Theater. He is the founder and president of the Killology Research Group, the current director of the Warrior Science Group and a former professor of psychology at West Point. According to his website, www.killology.com, "Col. Grossman has made revolutionary new contributions to our understanding of killing in war, the psychological costs of war, the root causes of the current 'virus' of violent crime that is raging around the world, and the process of healing the victims of violence, in war and peace." The National Prayer Luncheon is a tradition that dates back to the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. President Eisenhower would join with members of his cabinet and the legislature, as well as his friends, to pray for the nation. Since then, it has been customary for the sitting president to do likewise each year at this time. Within the Department of Defense, it is common to see observances of the National Prayer Luncheon held on most military facilities, both at home and abroad. Tickets to the National Prayer Luncheon are $5 for all personnel, which include a lunch buffet provided by The Club staff. Please contact your unit's first sergeant, chaplain or the 99 ABW Chapel at 702-652-2950 to purchase a ticket. Tickets will be available until Feb. 23, 2012. Kosher and Halal meals are available upon request by calling the chapel.
