The base housing office has launched a new website offering a total information source of housing information for present and future residents.

The site covers dormitory, on-base privatized housing, and off-base living options.

Dawn Davis-Spector, 99th Force Support Squadron housing manager, says the new site helps potential residents make informed choices.

"It's a privilege to live in privatized housing on base," she said. "It's a choice, and whether you live on base or downtown, you'll have the information to make that decision."

For those looking to live on base, there are forms to apply for housing, housing floor plans, info on community amenities, housing and dormitory rules, and more. Info on changing housing options after marriage, divorce or after gaining custody of a dependent child is also available, as are the rules for having guests in both unaccompanied and accompanied housing.

The site will be updated at least twice a year, and as often as needed, to ensure the information is current and accurate.

"To be honest, there wasn't a website like this up before," Davis-Spector said. "There either wasn't a lot of information or there was so much outdated information that it was worse than nothing."

The site is designed to cover as many options as possible. Area maps, local school and city utility information is provided, as well as crime information searchable by zip code. Davis-Spector believes the site will clear up most of the questions transitioning residents have.

"I think they're going to be able to do one-stop shopping" she said.

The information will be highly valuable to unit sponsors preparing for the arrival of a new unit member. Davis-Spector said she hopes the site will give more time back to sponsors so they can be more directly engaged with new arrivals instead of hunting for answers.

Frequently asked questions links and contact information for the base housing, privatized housing and unaccompanied housing offices are also available for those who don't find the answers they are looking for.

The site also accommodates those leaving Nellis, no matter what service branch they belong to. Davis-Spector said movers can access the DOD's worldwide housing referral assistance and links to housing on joint and other service's bases as well.

"Just check it out. Utilize it. It'll really help you - it has housing info for every base," she said.

The site is online at http://www.housing.af.mil/nellis/ and is also linked from the Nellis home page at http://www.nellis.af.mil under Housing Information.
