The Nellis Air Force Base First Sergeants Council is holding its annual Adopt-A-Family gift drive. Planning is already underway for the 2012 holiday program and the council wants to get the word out to the Nellis Air Force Base community.

Adopt-A-Family is a program that, with the help of our base and local community, is able to deliver gifts to military families from Nellis and Creech who are in need of some extra help during the holidays. It's a way for us to be uplifting during this time of the year.

It is a way to reach out to those who need an extra hand and let them know that we care. Community members and base members can help out those in need.

To participate in the program, local community agencies; such as banks, fire departments, veteran organizations, community and military personnel are encouraged to donate unwrapped gifts Dec. 10 - 14, 2012 to the Red Flag hangar at Nellis Air Force Base. You can also drop off at the Nellis Air Force Base Visitor Center Dec. 10 - 14 where there will be a person available to receive your donations.

"Incredible is the only way to describe the feeling of standing in that hangar, organizing the gifts and looking over the piles of presents donated by our generous community. Delivering them to hundreds of less fortunate families is incredibly heartwarming," said Master Sgt. Brian Noethlich, 57th Operations Group first sergeant. "I'm more amazed each year by the generosity and caring from our community. It reminds me why I do what I do, and why America is so great."

Any military personnel who want to donate gifts or adopt a family should contact his or her unit first sergeant no later than Nov 16, 2012. All others should contact Master Sergeant Cristy Anderson at cristy.anderson@nellis.af.mil or Master Sgt. Brian Noethlich at brian.noethlich@nellis.af.mil.
