New changes coming to Vehicle Control program Published Feb. 11, 2013 By Master Sgt. Rene Valdez and Mr. Kelly Keebler 99th Logistic Readiness Squadron NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- For units who have government-owned or leased vehicles, the way these assets will be managed is changing. Air Combat Command has been selected to test the "Airmen Saving Time" initiative, which involves the elimination of Vehicle Control Officers and Vehicle Control Non-Commissioned Officers. The new Vehicle Control Program is designed to decentralize the vehicle control processes to make managing vehicles more efficient. Previously, the Logistics Readiness squadron would communicate with the unit VCOs if a vehicle needed to be turned in for scheduled maintenance or other vehicle related issues. The new program will utilize a central unit email distribution box and all users will receive notifications directly to them. What does this mean to you and what steps will you need to take? Simple: Every unit with vehicles, golf carts, gators, etc. will need to create a distribution box for their unit that must be labeled, such as: 99 CES/GMV Distro List. At a minimum, the list must be populated with section supervisor, Flight Superintendent, and Flight OIC. Units can add additional people they feel need to receive notifications regarding their vehicles. An appointment letter must also be submitted to the 99th LRS stating who the owner of the distribution list is. The guidance states unit commanders, or there designated representative, will be responsible for signing for unit vehicles. The 99th LRS will require an appointment letter be submitted for those units wishing to do so, it may include a primary and up to two alternates. There will be more information forthcoming and training will be conducted Feb. 20, at the Nellis base theater and Feb. 22, at the Creech base theater. We encourage everyone who operates government vehicles to attend the training. This is a test and there will be issues with sections of the program. We stand ready to assist along the way. There is a SharePoint site containing the details of the program as well as a survey section where you can provide your inputs. Each unit may submit one survey input per month so please ensure you consolidate your responses between all flights before submitting. Without your input this program cannot be effectively evaluated and may be fully implemented prematurely. It will take your input to improve, refine or possibly eliminate the program. The SharePoint site is located at: https://acc.eim.acc.af.mil/org/a4/A4R/A4RE/VCO/default.aspx Please contact 99th LRS Vehicle Management and Analysis at 652-8059 or 404-2681 if you have any questions with this program.
