AFNet migration making progress Published July 16, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Timothy Young 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The Air Force Network migration is just around the corner and many Airmen don't know what to expect from the changes. AFNet is scheduled to begin migrating Nellis and Creech Air Force Base's supported computer and network users starting July 29 and is planned to take two months. The AFNet migration is expected to make email more user friendly than the current system being utilized across the Air Force and will increase network security, reduce operational cost and standardize email addresses. "This is a great benefit for all Air Force employees," said Anthony Kujak, 99th Communications Squadron Network Control Center chief. "Your account will truly move with you from base to base." Individual user and organizational email account migrations will typically occur during evening and weekend hours and always follow the computer migration phase. Users will be notified 72 and 24 hours in advance of the dates and times of the migration. To prepare for the migration, Airmen and DoD civilians should reduce the size of their mailbox by moving emails to personal folders in order to avoid the migration's size limit or the maximum amount of mail anyone's current account can hold. "We expect to wrap up all migration actions by September 13," Kujak said. "By that time, we will have migrated approximately 11,000 customers, 10,500 computers and about 6,000 organizational inboxes."
