NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The Nellis Air Force Base community is proud to present a free public event, Aviation Nation 2017 Air and Space Expo, Nov. 11 and 12.
The expo commemorates the U.S. Air Force’s 70th anniversary and will showcase the proud heritage and innovation of Airmen breaking barriers in air, space and cyberspace.
Headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the weekend includes several aerial demonstration teams. The event will also highlight America’s aviation history through modern military accomplishments via numerous ground displays. Community exhibits and family areas will be included in the event, and food, beverages and novelties will be available for purchase.
The schedule of events are as follows:
9 a.m. – Buses start transporting guests from Las Vegas Motor Speedway to expo
10 a.m. – Opening ceremony
10:15 a.m. – Various aerial and ground demonstrations
1 p.m. – Buses halt transportation to the expo and begin transportation to the speedway only
2 p.m. – Thunderbirds aerial performance
5 p.m. – Gates close
Hundreds of thousands of guests attend this annual event, so plan accordingly. Allow enough time to park, process security and access the event.
PARKING: Due to security precautions, free parking is available to the general public within the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. No privately owned vehicles without Department of Defense identification will not be allowed on base. Guests must process through security lines at the speedway and then ride provided buses to and from Nellis. The base has contracted more buses than in previous years to reduce wait times getting to and from the Air and Space Expo.
A handicapped parking area will be designated at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and handicapped-accessible shuttle buses will be provided.
ITEMS ALLOWED: Sunscreen, plastic beverage bottles with factory seal intact (baby bottles exempt), reusable water bottles except glass (empty bottles prior to processing through the security line, free water stations are available inside the expo), hearing protection, wagon or lightweight stroller for children, stadium chair or cushion for free bleacher seating
PROHIBITED ITEMS: Weapons of any kind to include pocket knives, pocket tools, scissors, box cutters, large heavy chain link jewelry or belts, mace and pepper spray; firearms, toys that resemble firearms and laser pointers; alcohol and illegal drugs – possession and use of recreational or medicinal marijuana is illegal on Nellis AFB or any federal installation; RC aircraft and drones; flammable items and fireworks; pets (except for service animals); spray paint and silly string; outside food, coolers, grills or glass containers; glass bottles; liquid without factory seal intact; walkie-talkies, HAM radios and scanners; bicycles, skateboards, scooters, roller skates and roller blades; excessively large items and bags – diaper bags, purses and camera bags must be 21 inches long, 10 inches wide, and 10 inches deep or smaller.
