Col. Shaun Loomis is Commander, Nevada Test and Training Range, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. He oversees a 2.9-million-acre range and 12,000 square miles of airspace that make up the NTTR complex as well as the Joint Integrated Test, Training Center that comprises the U.S. Air Force’s most advanced synthetic battleground. He is responsible for the planning and oversight of the United States’ largest and most sophisticated instrumental live and virtual battlespaces for testing and training U.S. military and coalition air forces. The NTTR supports advanced composite force training, tactics development and electronic combat testing for the Department of Defense.
Col. Loomis received his commission as a distinguished graduate through Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps in 2003 from Brigham Young University. He has served as an instructor pilot, flight examiner, weapons officer, director of operations, fighter squadron commander, and deputy group commander during multiple operational assignments in U. S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa, Pacific Air Forces and Air Combat Command. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Weapons School and has completed both a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Combat Air Force Fellowship. Prior to his current position, he was the Chief of Staff, 57th Wing, Nellis AFB, Nevada.
Col. Loomis is a command pilot with more than 2,900 flying hours and 371 combat flight hours, in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
