Release Number: 010313

3/26/2013 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- The 99th Air Base Wing Commander, Col. Barry Cornish, announced the cancellation of Aviation Nation 2013 scheduled for Nov. 9-10.

"Aviation Nation is a very popular event for our community, and I deeply regret our inability to host a Nellis Open House this year," Cornish said. "However, due to the effect of the Budget Control Act of 2011 and associated sequestration, the defense budget cuts for fiscal year 2013 are approximately $46 billion by law and must be accomplished by October 2013. To meet this obligation, the U.S. Air Force has prioritized combat readiness over other activities and air shows have been cancelled as a result."

Active-duty, Reserve and Guard units ceased all aviation support to the public March 13. This includes the cancellation of all support to all air shows, tradeshows, flyovers, orientation flights, heritage flights, F-22 demonstration flights and open houses, unless the event includes only static assets.

"The Las Vegas community has provided phenomenal support to Nellis AFB and its Airmen, and Aviation Nation was a way for us to show people who normally don't have the opportunity to see what we do here. It is my hope that we will be able to resume Aviation Nation in the near future," he added.

For more information, email the 99th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office at or call (702) 652-2750.

I did 2010 20112012 Aviation Nation In Nellis AFBI am very sad that this year show has been cancelled. It is far away one of the best show I ever seen and an absolute must for aviation lover like me. It's not only a show that you can see it's as well a show that you can feel Thanks to Nellis AFB and to all the military crew for organizing such a show with a friendship that you can feel everywhere and to the Thunderbirds team who are so pleasant and accessible I'm coming next year again and I hope aviation nation will be back. The show must go on Long life to Aviation Nation

I understand priorities. The military does. I wish our elected officials in Congress had a real clue concerning priorities. The air show is minor compared to what many Americans are facing due to this congressional inaction. This was my one get away for the year.I was elated to see a B-1 in the 2012show. Would love to see a B-2 in the 2014 show. One of the best shows in the circuit.

Been to the last three Aviation Nation events at Nellis and was planning to visit again this year. It will be sadly missed but hopefully will return next year.

Come over to Texas as the Alliance Air Show is still being hosted for this year currently at the timing of this post. Blue Angels are making their return but they haven't posted any other news about other performers. We'll probably know more about them closer to Summer most likely.

Very unfortunate but understandable under current circumstances. Hope that there will be a great show in 2014. Really enjoyed my trip out to Las Vegas in November 2012 for my one and only Aviation Nation show.
