355th Wing Detachment 1

Mission

The mission of the 355th Wing Detachment 1 is to provide administrative oversight and operational support for two combat rescue squadrons, the 58th Rescue Squadron and 66th Rescue Squadron and one aircraft maintenance squadron, the 66th Rescue Generation Squadron, at Nellis Air Force Base. The Detachment manages scheduling, training, plans, maintenance quality assurance, logistics, safety and resource management functions and provides command and control for home station taskings. The role of the 355 WG Det 1 and its commander (dual hatted as the 563 RQG/CD) is to represent 355 WG interests and provide a more effective communication pathway for its geographically separated units. The Detachment also incorporates a Program Integration Office for the transition from the HH-60G Pavehawk to the HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopter, directly impacting three separate wings and the future of Air Force Combat Rescue test, training and operational capability.

History

On June 15, 2020, the 563d Rescue Group OL-A was replaced by the 355th Wing Detachment 1. The OL-A stood up operations on Oct. 1, 2003, when all United States Air Force combat Air Force rescue assets were realigned under Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). All Air Force combat rescue assets were realigned once again in 2006 under Air Combat Command (ACC). The OL-A served as an operating location to the 563d Rescue Group located at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, who is assigned under the 23d Wing at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia.

66th Rescue Generation Squadron

Mission

The mission of the 66th Rescue Generation Squadron is to maintain, service, and inspect HH-60G "Pave Hawk" aircraft. Plan, schedule, and direct both scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance to maintain mission ready status. Rapidly mobilize and deploy forces to provide combat and peacetime search and rescue operations in support of US national security interests. Provide logistical support for the USAF Weapons School, 66th Rescue Squadron and 88th Test and Evaluation Squadron.

Unit History

The 66th Rescue Generation Squadron, previously 855th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, was redesignated on 11 July 2019 to realign under the 355th Wing. Prior to the redesignation, the previous 823d Maintenance Squadron was activated on 10 April 2012 when the 763d Maintenance Squadron was deactivated. The former 763d Maintenance Squadron stood up operations on 1 Oct 2003 when all combat Air Force rescue assets were realigned under Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). In 2006, all AFSOC assets were realigned to come under Air Combat Command (ACC). The 855 AMXS reports to the 355th Maintenance Group who is assigned under the 355th Wing, both located at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.

58th Rescue Squadron

Mission

The mission of the 58th Rescue Squadron is to organize, train, and equip a rescue force and combat support team that performs with courage and honor to deploy, employ to rescue anyone, anywhere, anytime, and redeploy. These Things We Do, That Others May Live to return with honor!

66th Rescue Squadron

Mission

The mission of the 66th Rescue Squadron is to provide rapidly deployable, expeditionary, and agile combat search and rescue (CSAR) forces to theater CINCs in response to contingency operations worldwide. The 66 RQS conducts peacetime search and rescue (SAR) in support of the National Search and Rescue Plan and the Air Warfare Center. They directly support HH-60G logistical and maintenance support requirements for the USAF Weapons School and Air Combat Command (ACC)-directed operational test missions.
