Col. James C. Fields II is the Commander, 505th Command and Control Wing, Hurlburt Field, Fla. As Commander, he leads the Air Force's premier wing dedicated to operational-level command and control, driving joint and coalition combat readiness across the global enterprise. He is responsible for preparing warfighters through initial and advanced training, the execution of major joint and coalition exercises, and the development of next-generation tactics. Additionally, he guides the operational-level experimentation and integration required to project multi-domain power and achieve decision advantage across the global battlespace. The 505th CCW is comprised of the 505th Test and Training Group at Hurlburt Field, Fla., 505th Combat Training Group at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., and Detachment 1, 505th CCW at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
Col. Fields served as a non-commissioned officer prior to commissioning in 2000 through the U.S. Air Force Officer Training School. A Master Air Battle Manager, he has logged than 2,200 flight hours.
A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, his career spans key leadership assignments at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels. He has served as a Weapons School Instructor, commanded the 621st Air Control Squadron at Osan Air Base, South Korea, and shaped doctrine as the Chief of the C2 Branch at Headquarters Air Force. Prior to his current position, the colonel was the Commander, 505th TTG, Hurlburt Field, Fla.
