99 MDG FMR Year 2 Sports Event Second Year
Second year continues with advancing responsibilities supervising medical students and interns.  In contrast to intern year, a greater emphasis is placed on ambulatory and subspecialty rotations.  Three blocks are inpatient medicine (1 with FMR staff, 1 on night float, 1 with Sunrise Nursery/Late term NICU), 0.5 blocks are in Gyn clinic, 0.5 blocks in Sports Med, 1 month in Peds clinic, and 1 month is in FMR procedure clinics.

In addition, subspecialty learning blocks are required.  Current blocks include: Nephrology/Elective, Mental Health/Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Dermatology/Endocrinology, Urology/Selective, Ophthalmology/ENT, and Cardiology/Pulmonary.  You will be in 3 traditional FMR clinic half days per week, and spend the remaining half day per week in teaching conferences, quality improvement projects, nursing home visits, admin, or research project time.  You get one week of paid CME if in good academic standing to pursue an area of concentration.

99 MDG FMR Year 2 Campout Of note, pediatric emergency training occurs in a longitudinal format; residents will spend 8 weekend shifts (12 hrs each) over the course of the year.  Other than night float, the only planned overnight call occurs once weekly on Family Medicine inpatient.

All senior residents will be assigned 2 or more long-term continuity nursing home patients at nearby Silver Hills Health Care Center.  You will visit each patient once monthly and write continuity notes over the course of your final 2 years of training.
