The fitness center and the health and wellness center are scheduled to host a health fair here May 30 at the Warrior Fitness Center.

The health fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is open to anyone with base access.

Opportunities provided during the event include a blood drive, a showcase of fitness equipment and interactive booths.

Many of the booths available are aimed at preventative care information in an attempt to steer attendees on the right path to a healthier lifestyle.

"One of the fitness center's goals is to be a conduit for fitness Information," said Tech Sgt. Lakeisha Elhallaoui, 99th Force Support Squadron fitness center operations manager. "We endeavor to facilitate the sharing of knowledge that facilitates Health and Fitness resources, awareness and proactively provide our fitness warriors with the opportunity to enhance their awareness."

One way the fitness center and HAWC's staff hope to accomplish this task is through providing health-oriented opportunities such as cholesterol screenings.

According to the American Heart Association, keeping your cholesterol levels healthy is a great way to keep your heart healthy and lower your chances of developing heart disease or having a stroke.

Providing participants with services such as blood and cholesterol screenings along with, foot, eye and dental care is only part of the expected benefits of the health fair. Elhallaoui also expects the health fair to raise awareness of the shortage of blood donations in the community.

"The [organization providing the] blood drive considers this event critical because of the past success in restocking blood products," Elhallaoui said. "Last year the blood drive services surpassed their goals. More than 40 Warriors participated in donations."

Members of the Warrior Fitness Center and HAWC believe the tools provided during the health fair can help lead many people to a happier and healthier life.
