A&FRC to host job fair
"This enables our relocating and transitioning members and spouses to begin creating a network of employers for potential positions that are currently or coming available," said Donald Murray, 99th Force Support Squadron community readiness consultant. "It enables the opportunity for people to discuss industry specifics with employers and learn the hiring process for multiple organizations."
There are currently 40 employers -- including agencies representing multiple companies -- from the energy sector, hospitality and gaming, security, hotel, communication, law enforcement, mining, aerospace, information technology, government agencies, insurance, financial, Clark County School District and government contractors just to name a few.
"Every agency that registers is required to have a minimum of two positions available at the time of the event. Most agencies have more than that," explained Gerardo Bupp, 99th FSS community readiness specialist. "We have industries that attend that can have hundreds of temporary, part-time and full-time positions. At the last event, one company hired five candidates and another hired two and held multiple interviews -- and these were just two of the 40 companies represented."
Attendees of the event are encouraged to dress as if they are actually attending an interview and to bring résumés and cover letters. If a candidate for employment has business cards, they can also bring those for employers they are focused on.
"This is an initial interview," Murray said. "Professional and conservative is always a safe bet when coming to a job fair. Dark colors for suits and slacks are always a good choice. There are hundreds of websites out there for dressing for success which covers everything from suits, ties, accessories and so on they can consult for successful dressing tips."
The A&FRC holds the Employee Assistance Event three times per year. The next event is scheduled to be held in the spring. For more information, contact the A&FRC at 702-652-3327.
