Nellis, Creech Airmen make staff sergeant

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. --   From more than 36,000 Airmen from across the Air Force, 507 from Nellis and Creech AFB's found out Aug. 15 that they have been selected for staff sergeant.

The promotion rate jumped almost 5.5 percent from last year allowing 14,623 Airmen to make the grade.

For those who want to know how well they scored, score notices are posted on the virtual Military Personnel Flight and the Air Force Portal.

"The promotion rates are great news to Nellis and Creech -- we've got so many senior airmen who deserve the promotion, and I'm glad to see the Air Force has stepped up the number selected this year," said 99th Air Base Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Britton Ellis. "The Airmen [at Nellis and Creech] work at such a higher level of skill and knowledge and deliver unparallel combat capabilities to our nation, it is my view that we need to pay them more and promote them in higher numbers like we did this cycle."

The average staff sergeant selectee score for the 2007 staff sergeant test cycle was 270.71 points, based on the following:

Enlisted Performance Reports ---- 131.72
Promotion Fitness Exam ------------ 55.99
Specialty Knowledge Test ---------- 54.33
Time in Grade -----------------------------2.15
Time in Service -------------------------- 4.72
Decorations ------------------------------- 0.85

There are more than 4,000 enlisted Airmen who will have yet to take the Weighted Airmen Promotion System test, primarily due to deployment. Once they return, they will be provided the 60-day study time prior to testing and then automatically be considered via the monthly supplemental process.
