Tuskegee Airmen win 1949 Gunnery Meet
This photo with its original caption congratulates the Tuskegee Airmen who were victorious in the U.S. Air Force’s first Gunnery Meet, which was held in May 1949, on Las Vegas Air Force Base, Nev. Not long after the Tuskegee Airmen won this competition, the Air Force began the process of desegregating the Air Force, which caused the dismantling of the 332nd Fighter Group, the “home” of the Tuskegee Airmen.
