9/6/2012 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev.  -- This year's annual Retiree Appreciation Day, hosted by Nellis AFB, is Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to1 p.m. at the Thunderbird Hangar.

The scheduled events include an information fair and entertainment throughout the day.

Nellis AFB, local and national organizations will have more than 65 tables set up for information distribution for retirees and their families. Sixteen clinics from the 99th Medical Group, to include dental, immunizations, public health, and mental health resiliency will also be at the event to answer health questions related to their fields. There will also be a K-9 demonstration, and a performance by Leon C. Gilliam, formerly of "The Platters."

The information fair is slated to include health screening opportunities, educational consultants, banking information and other areas important considered important to retirees.

The Thunderbird museum is offering guided tours and showing a Thunderbird movie from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Throughout the morning, attendees will be able to reset their personal identification number (PIN) for their MyPay accounts on-site at the finance booth and can stop by at the military personnel flight building to update their Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, or DEERS, information from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Other topics discussed during the event will include changes in Tricare, changes in the Defense Finance and Accounting Service and the opening of the new Veterans Affairs clinic.

Master Sgt. Trina Hjelseth, 99th Aerospace Medical Squadron and this year's project officer, said she believes the event is an opportunity to give back to those who have served.

"We are sharing all the tools and information available to hopefully make our retirees lives easier while showing our appreciation for the service they gave," Hjelseth said. "It is a way to give back to the mentors who paved the way for all of us currently serving in the military. It is a day to share stories and learn from each other.

"I hope the retirees can take away some tools that they did not know about," she added. "Everything is on the computer these days, and it can be overwhelming to say the least. Hopefully, they leave with a better understanding of how to find the answers to the questions they have, and if not, where they can go to get help."
