3/22/2012 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Brig. Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy, 57th Wing commander, will relinquish command of the 57th Wing to Brig. Gen. Charles L. Moore Jr. at 10:57 a.m. March 26, 2012, on Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

The commander of the 57th Wing is responsible for 38 squadrons at 12 installations, which comprise the Air Force's most diverse flying wing. The wing flies and maintains more than 130 aircraft of the following types: A-10, F-15C/D, F-15E, F-16C/CG/CJ, F-22A and HH-60G. The wing also utilizes E-3, RC-135, E-8, B-1, B-2, B-52, AC-130U and MC-130P aircraft at 12 stateside bases to support the U.S. Air Force Weapons School syllabus. The commander is also in charge of four groups: the 57th Adversary Tactics Group, 57th Operations Group, 57th Maintenance Group and U.S. Air Force Weapons School. In addition, he oversees the 561st Joint Tactics Squadron, U.S. Air Force Advanced Maintenance and Munitions Officer School, U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, and Red Flag and Green Flag exercises.

O'Shaughnessy is a 1986 distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He earned his wings at Sheppard AFB, Texas, and is a command pilot with more than 2,900 hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon. He has had numerous operational F-16 assignments and served as an instructor in the F-16 division of the U.S. Air Force Fighter Weapons School. He has commanded the 510th Fighter Squadron, Aviano Air Base, Italy; 57th Adversary Tactics Group, Nellis AFB; 35th Fighter Wing, Misawa AB, Japan; and 613th Air and Space Operations Center, Hickam AFB, Hawaii. His staff assignments include duty as the Secretary of the Air Force Legislative Liaison office Fighter Programs chief and the Secretary of the Air Force Global Power Directorate Air Superiority Weapons Branch chief.

Moore comes to the 57th Wing following service as commander of the 20th Fighter Wing, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. The 20th Fighter Wing's mission is to provide, project and sustain combat-ready air forces. As commander, he served as the senior officer responsible for organizing, training and equipping a 19-squadron wing with three Lockheed-Martin F-16CJ Falcon squadrons. He was responsible for the care, morale and welfare of approximately 6,000 Airmen and 1,000 civilian employees assigned to the base. General Moore was commissioned in 1989 after graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He has served as an F-16 fighter pilot, instructor pilot, weapons officer, forward air controller, and instructor at the U.S. Air Force Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB. He also served as the program element manager and chief of requirements for the Joint Strike Fighter F-35 Program, Headquarters, Air Force Directorate of Operational Requirements. Additionally, Colonel Moore served as operations officer and commander of the 555th Fighter Squadron, Aviano AB, Italy. In 2005, he led the squadron on a combat deployment during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and has flown more than 630 combat hours in support of numerous operations. Following squadron command, he served as a National Defense Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University. Following his fellowship, Colonel Moore served as commander of the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Group, Balad Air Base, Iraq.
