Exercises and Flying Operations

Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., is one of the largest fighter bases in the world. Aircraft from Nellis operate on the Nevada Test and Training Range, which offers more than 15,000 square miles of airspace and 4,700 square miles of restricted land. More than 75 percent of all live munitions used by the Air Force for training are dropped on the Nevada Test and Training Range. Many communities in southern Nevada see and hear Nellis aircraft 24 hours a day, seven days a week. From 100 feet above the ground to twice the speed of sound, Nellis conducts advanced combat training, performs operational test and evaluation, and develops tactics.

Red Flag High Intensity Air to Air Combat Exercise

414th Combat Training Squadron "RED FLAG" Factsheet

Red Flag is the Air Force's premier air-to-air combat training exercise. Participants often include both US and allied nations' combat air forces. The exercise gives pilots the experience of mulitple, intensive air combat sorties in the safety of a training environment.

Red Flag schedule for calendar year 2015:

RED FLAG 15-1 will be from Jan. 26 to Feb. 13.

RED FLAG 15-2 will be from Mar. 2 to 13.

RED FLAG 15-3 will be from July 13 to 31.

RED FLAG 15-4 will be from Aug. 17 to 28.

Dates and units participating in Red Flag exercises are subject to change.

Green Flag Cutting Edge Air to Air Operations Training

Green Flag - West aircraft and crews fly from Nellis AFB, Nev., in support of ground combat training at Fort Irwin (Barstow), Calif.

Green Flag - West schedule for fiscal 2015:

15-02 will be from Nov. 7 to 21, 2014

15-03 will be from Jan. 18 to Feb. 1, 2015

15-05 will be from Feb. 20 to March 6

15-06 will be from March 20 to April 3

15-07 will be from April 24 to May 8

15-08 will be from May 29 to June 12

15-08.5 will be from July 17 to 31

15-09 will be from Aug. 14 to 26

15-10 will be from Sept. 11 to 25

Dates and units participating in Green Flag exercises are subject to change.
tabMAFEX (Mobility Air Forces Exercise) 
JFEX (Joint Forcible Entry Exercise) Large-Scale Air Mobility Exercise

JFEX is a US Air Force Weapons School large-scale air mobility exercise in which participants plan and execute a complex air-land operation in a simulated contested battlefield. JFEX exercises participants' ability to synchronize aircraft movements from geographically-separated bases, command large formations of dissimilar aircraft in high threat airspace, and tactically deliver and recover combat forces via air drops and combat landings on an unimproved landing strip.

JFEX schedule for calendar year 2015:

Class 15A will take place June 20, 2015
Class 15B will take place Dec. 12, 2015

Dates and units participating in Joint Forcible Entry Exercises are subject to change.
tabAdvanced Integration 
Advanced Integration is the graduation exercise for the USAF Weapons School, taking place twice a year. It involves the planning and execution of every aspect of Air and Space combat operations, with units converging over the Nevada Test and Training Range for a wide variety of missions.

Advanced Integration schedule for calendar year 2015:

Class 15A will take place from June 18 to 24, 2015

Class 15B will take place from Dec. 10 to 16, 2015

Dates and units participating in Mission Employment Phase exercises are subject to change.
