The Federal Aviation Administration has deemed Nellis Air Force Base’s airspace a Class Bravo airspace.

With this designation, professional small unmanned aircraft systems pilots (sUAS), commonly referred to as “drone pilots,” are advised that in order to fly in this airspace they must be licensed and possess an FAA-issued Certificate of Authorization.

This authorization can be obtained via the FAADroneZone application online.

Recreational sUAS pilots must receive an Airspace Authorization from the FAA which will include altitude limitations and operational provisions. Pilots are asked to reach out to the FAA via the FAA’s B4UFLY application.

All sUAS activity outside FAA rules and guidelines is a violation of Nevada statute and the Code of Federal Regulations.

Although the base does not discuss specific force protection measures, DoD personnel retain the right to enforce federal law to ensure the safety of personnel and military operations.

Please feel free to reach out to the FAA if you have any questions or concerns prior to flying a sUAS.
