Five Nevada Civil Air Patrol Honor Guard units visited Creech Saturday to prove who is the best CAP Honor Guard in Nevada.

The five CAP squadrons were Clark County Composite Squadron, Henderson Composite Squadron, Humboldt County Composite Squadron, Reno Composite Squadron, and the Nellis Cadet Squadron.

Only one could be chosen to go to Oregon to compete for the title of Pacific Region Color Guard champions; and that unit was the Nellis Cadet Squadron.

The Nellis Cadet Squadron Honor Guard placed first in four out of the seven competition events.

The events the Nellis Cadet Squadron placed first in were inspection, standard drill, indoor presentation and the one-mile run. They won second in outdoor presentation and panel quiz, and placed third in the written exam.

The team went home with certificates and a trophy for their unit.

The CAP is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and was chartered by Congress on Dec. 1, 1941. Currently, there are more than 58,000 members, to include 27,000 cadets, nationwide.

Five members of the Nellis Base Honor Guard and one CAP chaplain served as judges for the event. The CAP chaplain was Chaplain (Maj.) Debbie Prosser, and the Nellis members were Airman 1st Class Cymbeline Noble, Senior Airman Jose Peterson, Senior Airman Gabriel Phoenix, Airman 1st Class Christina Walton and Airman Ashley Billingsley.

The Nellis Cadet Squadron is scheduled to travel Oregon at the end of April to compete for the title of Pacific Region Color Guard Champions. If they win that competition, they earn the right to compete against seven other regional teams at the National Cadet Competition in July.
