Squadron patch

Squadron patch

The 561st Joint Tactics Squadron is a direct reporting unit under the 57th Wing, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. The unit has a storied combat history as a flying unit, but since reactivation June 5, 2007 has served as the sole publishers of Air Force Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (AFTTP) volumes. Additionally, the 561 JTS works closely with deployed units to ensure the latest emerging TTP are captured and disseminated to U.S. Air Force, joint, and coalition forces.

Commander's Vision and Mission

The 561 JTS will be a well-trained and integrated team, with a positive and cohesive culture, that efficiently communicates credible solutions to priority air, space, and cyberspace tactical problems. The mission of the 561 JTS is to enhance warfighter lethality through fostering, capturing, and disseminating timely and relevant tactics, techniques, procedures, and tactical lessons learned.

Departments

Lessons Learned (JTL) collects, vets, and integrates new TTP by attending U.S. Air Force Weapons and Tactics Conferences (WEPTAC) and Tactics Review Boards (TRB); working with the U.S. Air Force Weapons School (especially during the advanced integration phase of the course); and networking with subject matter experts in the field, lessons learned organizations, and corresponding with the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps organizations.  JTL observes exercises to gain insight on emerging TTP and reviews after action reports to identify trends exposing TTP deficiencies. JTL fosters and develops flash/tactics bulletins and contributes to AFTTP 3-1 and 3-3 manuals, Air Land Sea Application Center (ALSA) multi-Service TTP, and other joint publications.

Production (JTP) produces all AFTTP 3-1/3-3, flash/tactics bulletins, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) tactics manuals. JTP coordinates rewrite working groups, provides editing and graphics support, and staffs volumes for approval. JTP also oversees AVTECH Research Corporation (our on-site contractor) who provides the backbone of our foreign disclosure expertise; producing all FMS volumes while assisting in AFTTP production as needed.

Information Technology (JTI) provides the technological backbone to support the creation and dissemination of TTP. JTI ensures 561 JTS staff and visiting personnel have access to shared resources to collaborate on TTP documents and that current TTP is available to U.S. Air Force, joint, and coalition warfighters. JTI is the strategic focal point for the 561 JTS to develop innovative solutions for future TTP collaborative development and dissemination.

Security Staff (JTSS) facilitates TTP development across all security levels including Secret, Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information, and Special Access Programs by maintaining appropriate accredited facilities and information systems as well as managing security clearances for 561 JTS personnel. JTSS trains all personnel on security guidelines and verifies all visitors to the 561 JTS have the appropriate security clearances.

Commander’s Support Staff (CSS) is responsible for all personnel aspects of the squadron such as in/out processing, deployment management, performance reports, awards, and other personnel actions. CSS also manages squadron fiscal resources and Air Force directed programs.
